Civiuser Component com_civiuser for Joomla 1.5.x and CiviCRM v3.x
ReadMe for version 1.0
Based on the standard com_user from Joomla 1.5.15 this component replaces the standard new user registration form with one that allows someone to register as a website user only if they already exist as a CiviCRM contact. It should be used in conjunction with mod_civilogin if you also want a simple login form displayed in a module position.
You need to disable the built in Joomla user registration (under Site-Global Configuration-System) and also the standard login module (mod_login) if you are using it, and use menu links to the com_civiuser component for login, user details and registration.
Additional parameters allow you to further restrict registration to only contacts belonging to a specific group (or one of a list of groups) in CiviCRM and/or only having valid current membership details in the CiviMember component of CiviCRM.

This is a further explanation of the thinking behind com_civiuser in response to a question from a user.
com_civiuser (together with mod_civilogin) has the same functionality as the standard com_user which handles the front-end user view of login, logout, forgot password, forgot username, and create an account.
The only bit that is changed is the 'create an account' form which in the com_civiuser version only allows someone to create a joomla user account if there is a matching CiviCRM contact record, and optionally if they are also a member of any one of a list of CiviCRM groups.
